Welcome

Dr. Wade Guthrie

I have been working as a Chiropractor for over 25 years and I still love what I do! The word Chiropractic is composed of two Greek words: chiro, which means hands and praktikós, which means practice. I have always believed that using my hands to diagnose and treat is ultimately the most efficient and effective way to bring about profound healing. Also, I was for years an Anatomy and Physiology instructor at Lane Community College, so rest assured I know your body. Therefore, I rarely prescribe X-rays for my evaluation process. However, when ones presenting symptoms suggest the need for it, I do refer patients for imaging evaluations like X-ray. In those cases when I feel it is necessary, I refer my patients to a facility with state of the art equipment and procedures.

Another aspect of practicing, which I have always held to, is the notion that your time is as valuable to you as my time is to me; consequently I am almost never behind schedule. Also, I rarely spend less than 25 to 30 minutes with my patients. This is a distinguishing characteristic of my work, since most Chiropractors and Medical providers spend far less than that – on average about 10 minutes!

I feel that to fully address spinal problems, I must first correct any poorly energized tissues (like muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia) that support the proper position of the 24 moveable bones of your spine. Contrary to what you may have heard, bones don’t generally just fall out of place – or even get knocked out of place. The usual problem begins with the tissues like muscle, which become over-used or improperly cared for. This most often occurs due to lack of proper regular movement, poor nutrition, and the like, and leads to muscles which do not have enough energy to maintain their proper strength and structural integrity. When this occurs they become rigid and shortened and pull the bones out of alignment. There are those who will tell you that simply adjusting the bones will solve all of these deficiencies, but in 25 years of doing this work I have not found this to be so.

To accomplish return of proper strength and flexibility of the tissues like muscle, I often employ the use of microcurrents, which are delivered using a hand-held, battery powered tool designed by several noted acupuncturists. These tools stimulate the tissues with a profoundly small electrical current – hence the name microcurrents – and replicate the electrical flows that occur naturally when your body is functioning properly. I utilize my 25 years of training in acupuncture point identification and treatment to deliver these currents of healing to the most effective points, to restore energy quickly to depleted and tight tissues – very effective! The aspect of this work that is most appreciated by my patients is that I can deliver these healing currents while simultaneously providing hands-on techniques, which we as Chiropractors are uniquely trained to provide.

After I do the healing work with microcurrents and hands-on techniques, I often then gently adjust the bones back into place. When I say gently, I mean relative to the force that is needed if one just goes for an adjustment that is pushing against the over-tight tissues mentioned above. I also often employ heat at the same time as the microcurrent work, using what are called far-infrared lamps. The combination is very comfortable, detoxifying and pain relieving!

I can modify any of the above methods to accommodate the needs of each individual and can schedule shorter or sometimes even longer appointments as needed. My initial evaluation and treatment time is 60 minutes. Additionally, I have several very skilled massage therapists who work with me and since they are personally trained by me and certified as Chiropractic Assistants (through the State Board) we are often able to bill your insurance for their work.

My clinic hours are somewhat flexible (with sufficient notice) and you will be greeted with a warm welcome from my staff and will delight in the colorful and warm environment of our clinic.

I look forward to meeting you and providing you with excellent care.
